the veils

new zealand native, finn andrews got his start back in '01 @ the ripe age of 18... andrews started a band with a few buddies he'd met while in london... they began calling themselves "the veils"... pretty soon they rolled out with a debut album, entitled "the runaway found"... huge hit going gold worldwide in '05... i love this band... that's why i reviewed them of course... the sound that's produced by this band has a very raw, inde-folk-alternative feel to it... i like it, hope you do to... tell me what you think... much love and peace... scottie

outside

outside is an old-school jazz/ electronic/ ambient/ funk/ trip-hop/whatever type band... their albums are very inconsistent... almost every one is different and set apart from each other... the songs are inconsistent as well... i'm not into everything this band puts out but theirs quite a few diamonds in the rough... you've just got to dig a little for them... there are few albums that i like start to finish but discoveries, & the rough and the smooth both definitely make the cut.

bitter:sweet

amazing stuff... the music has a very cinematic feel to it... lot's of strings, electric piano, a little bit of horns thrown in the mix... it also has a bit of an electronic twist to it... a perfect blend between classic and modern... it reminds me of something you'd hear off the soundtrack of a bond movie... on the album... singer, shana halligan... showcases her beautiful voice... she's got soul... plenty of it... and the makings of a modern day jazz singer... great cd... not to up on the sexual lyrics... but the music's amazing.

robert randolph & the family band

these guy's have been getting quite a bit of play time in my car lately... i'm not quite sure whether it was randolph's smooth buttery licks that first attracted me... or maybe it was his cousin on bass providing plenty of groove... that grabbed my attention... don't know don't care... doesn't matter... cause these guy's are outstanding... take funk, r&b, & soul... then add a mean steel guitar to the mix... and you've got somethin' close to the sound that's produced when this band starts to play. they're latest album "colorblind" is loaded with tons of great tracks including compilations with artists such as leela james, eric clapton, & dave matthews...
